Spackle & Muslin Bag DIY with Jenifer Cowles

Spackle and Muslin Bag Tutorial
Curtsey Boutique Designer
Jenifer Cowles
My Pinterest boards are filled with projects that use texture mediums and stencils, but until today I've been too chicken to try it for myself. Jen is back sharing a super easy project on adding texture to our muslin bags. I can't wait to try this out!

Jenifer placed a stencil over one of our muslin bags. Ensuring it was flat she used regular household spackle (found in any hardware store or even Walmart). She spread a thin and even layer over the stencil with a spatula and then lifted the stencil off.

Allow the spackle to dry completely based on the manufacturer's recommendations and then embellish. Jenifer topped her bag with our ruffled fabric ribbon, clothes pins,  fabric flowers and glitter butterflies.

Thanksgiving Day Place Card & Utensil Holder with Andrea Amu

Thanksgiving Day Place Card & Utensil Holder
Curtsey Boutique Designer

When I came across the burlap bags in my stash of Curtsey Boutique supplies, I knew instantly that they would make wonderfully fancy utensil bags for dressing up our Thanksgiving dinner table!

The chalkboard tags are the perfect accompaniment for displaying everyone's seating arrangement.  Better yet, these bags were so easy to put together.  I used some faux leaves that I purchased at the local dollar store and started by attaching two leaves to a yellow hand-dyed doily with glue dots.  I also adhered a fabric Curtsey Boutique flower on top of the leaves and then affixed the embellished doily to the burlap bag with a heavier glue dot.

To finish off each bag, I simply tied on the chalkboard tag with a string of burlap and wrote the name onto the tag with chalk.  Easy and elegant!

DIY Halloween Glitter Candy Corn Pine Cones Tutorial by Andrea Amu

Candy Cones Tutorial by Andrea Amu
One day while I was glancing at some pine cones that the daycare children at my work painted, I got an insane idea to paint up some cones of my own to look like candy corn!  Thus, the creation of Candy Cones!

Here I first gathered my supplies.

Then I got to work painting 3 different pinecones each with sections of white, orange and yellow acrylic craft paint.

Allow each cone to fully dry.

Apply a heavy coat of spray adhesive to each cone.  (Work on one cone at a time until each is completely finished with next step of glittering).

You'll want to make these cones look as sweet as candy... sugar them up with some glitter!  I used plenty of Diamond Dust glitter by FloraCraft for these cones.

Now you will need a fabulous container to display these festive cones.  I chose to use a wood berry basket from Curtsey Boutique!  I've embellished mine with a strip of tied on burlap and I've hot glued on two Curtsey Boutique flowers and a burlap star.

I've also taken a strip of Curtsey Boutique's kraft masking tape and I've stamped Antique lettering on it with the words, "Candy Cones!". Apply the strip to a burlap tag and tie off onto the basket to complete.

Looking sweet!

This week will be an exciting one as we begin sharing artwork from all of our new design team members!

We are getting the ball rolling with Connie's lovely embellished pumpkin. The combination of Curtsey Boutique fabric and felt flowers and our seam binding makes for a lovely piece of home decor perfect for celebrating the fall harvest or embracing a sweetly less scary Halloween theme.

Shop Update: New Shabby Chic Fabric Flowers

Burlap, Tulle and Lace Flowers
Curtsey Boutique
This past week I've added a bunch of new Shabby Chic flowers to the shop.  They combine some of my favorite things - burlap, lace, pearls, tulle and ruffles - lots and lots of ruffles.

They would be perfect on layouts, cards, packaging as hair clips or on headbands. They can be made in a wide variety of fabrics or custom ordered to match the outfit or occasion of your choice.
