A Thankful Vintage Halloween Card

A Thankful Halloween Card
Serendipitous Scrapper
Once upon a time a wondrous thing happened - a scrapbooking supplies addicted fair maiden found a perfectly good pair of Martha Stewart Fringe scissors in the clearance bin.  I don't know what person in their right mind would return these magical creatures, but they did and I snatched them up and have been using them for ALL sorts of fun things.

On this card I layered three 6 x 2.5 inch pieces of tulle (brown, orange and white). I whipped stitched the tulle at the top and than took the fringe scissors to them to create the fun frayed layers of tulle behind the doilies.

The glass leaves have been in my stash for 4 years (yes 4)!!  I found them at a flea market in Rotterdam and just now remembered I had them and put them to good use.

Most of the papers are Simple Stories, with the exception of the fun little vintage witch who is from Reminisce. I'm not big on monsters and ghouls, but sweet fun vintage Halloween images - those I love.

The dyed doilies are from my shop.

Chicago CHA Update #3 - Petaloo & Prima Marketing, Inc.

Floral embellishments come in all shapes, sizes, shades and budgets. I visited both the Prima and the Petaloo booths at CHA to see what was new to floral embellishments. Vintage colors, glass glitter, birds and vines are still holding out strong and I saw a number of things I would love to add to my own stash.  I have given credit when I knew who the artist was in the pictures below, and I would love to add their names to the captions if you have that information.

Petaloo

I learned at the show that Petaloo product can be divided into four categories.

Petaloo Premier: Vintage and fashion forward floral embellishments

Flora-Doodles:  General purpose, value driven floral embellishments

Color Me Crazy: Their largest product offering with a wide range of materials, shapes and sizes - perfect for painting, stamping, inking, spraying or staining.

Dazzlers: Hand-glittered embellishments ideal for cardmaking, scrapbooking, and general crafting.

How adorable is this Petaloo layout?

These trims are new to the Petaloo product line and I thought they would be great for using as a trim or when cut up individually.

Loving these Petaloo flowers for Christmas cards and layouts.

Prima Marketing, Inc.

The Prima booth is ALWAYS amazing. They have a phenomenal design team and I love to wander thier samples for inspiration. Ingvild Bolme was in the booth demonstrating her new line of tools, but I didn't have the time to stop and do the make n' take. (bummer!)

A good friend of mine, Heidi Kelley, is on the Prima Design Team so many of the artwork samples are hers. Isn't she amazing!

"In God we Trust" 4th of July Card

As a veteran married to a veteran who is the daughter of two veterans and the grand daughter of veterans patriotic holidays are a big deal in our family. I wanted to make a few cards for the 4th of July and here is the first one I came up with last night.  I love the "A Child's Year" cartridge, but rarely use the silhouettes as silhouettes.  Instead, I cut them a bunch of time and create my own layers with different colors of cardstock and by adding little details like the belt, shirt color, hair and pant leg cuff.

Have a fantatic weekend and be sure to check back on Tuesday for my last post with My Pink Stamper - I can't believe the 6 months have flown by so quickly and our DT term is already up!

Recipe:
Cricut Cartridges: A Child's Year, Tags, Bags, Boxes and More, Plantin Schoolbook
Embossing Folder: Cuttlebug: Swissdots
Patterned Paper: Graphic45, October Afternoon, Prima, Miss Arts Papercrafting School: Ruth's Recipe Kit
Dies: Nestabilities Circles: 3," 2.25"

Star Punch: EK Success

Buttons: Misc.

Cuts:
A Child's Year: "4July2-s" cut at 2.5" from white, peach, brown, gray, black, and white cardstock, blue star patterned paper, and yellow patterned paper

Happy Boy Layout

After 8 years of hoping for a boy, this past September we had our (not so) little Reid. This layout is of his first trip to church - I can't get enough of him in vests and suits!

The layout features Epiphany Crafts' charms, vintage settings and round 14 Bubble caps. I LOVE the versatility of being able to make my own customizable charms, buttons and epoxy embellishments. If you don't own their amazing set of tools head over to their website HERE to find out all the details on how you can.

The vintage setting I used (above the celebrate) was white and it was easy to alter and distress with standard acrylic paint.

I know my local Archivers is now carrying the entire Epiphany Crafts product line which is great for a quick trip when I need more Bubble Caps or Vintage Settings.

Recipe:
Tools: Epiphany Crafts (Clear Round 14 Bubble Caps, EC Shape Studio Round 14, EC Charm Settings Silver,Clubhouse Vintage Settings)
Chipboard Banner: Maya Road
Patterned Paper: My  Mind's Eye
Pearls and Bling: Recollections
Lace Flower: Prima
Misc.: Bird's nest charm

April My Pink Stamper Pinkalicious Blog Hop

Happy Spring and welcome to the April My Pink Stamper Pinkalicious Blog Hop!

If you are just happening on the hop please be sure to start at the My Pink Stamper blog to see all of the projects created by Robyn and the MPS team. If you have been following along the whole time you should have just come from Shauna's blog.

After checking out my project and the tutorial below be sure to visit Karlee's blog next!

Our challenge was to create a birthday inspired project with any My Pink Stamper stamp set. I decided to make a vintage inspired birthday hat for my daughter's 6th birthday this Summer. Ironically, she was not home when I took the pictures so my 3 year old is having a blast being the model.

I used the "Birthday" sentiment from the "Happy Birthday Sweetie" stamp on the "Sweetest Cupcakes" stamp set and the "Girl" sentiment from the "Sweet Baby" Stamp set.

The blue rosette was created from the scallop on page 53 of the Sweet Treats Cricut Cartridge and the "6" is from the Carousel Cricut Lite Cartridge. The cone is from a pattern of my own design and I also created the crepe paper fringe. The fringe is easy to make and super cheap too! Visit your local party store to find a wide array of colors at about a $1 a roll.

RECIPE
Stamp Sets: My Pink Stamper: Sweetest Cupcakes and Sweet Baby

Cricut Lite Cartridge: Carousel (the number 6 cut at 2 3/4 inches using the Font Function and Shift Key)

Cricut Cartridge: Sweet Treats (The rosette is created from two flower5's cut at 4 1/2 inches with the Shift Key)

Paper: Madeline's Song Kit: Miss Art's Papercrafting School
Pink Flowers: Prima
Glitter: Stampendous
Pearls: Recollections
Brown Ink: Tsukineko
Misc: Crepe Paper, Pink Tulle, Ribbon

The entire blog hop list of artists and their projects follows:
Thanks for stopping by and for those interested in how to make the fringe - read on below.

CarrieAnne
Fringe Tutorial
1. Cut each color of crepe paper to your desired length. 18 inches for the hat shown.

2. Layer the 3 crepe paper lengths one on top of the other and stitch down the middle. You could use the straight stitch on a sewing machine, but I used a loose stitch and a needle and thread.

3. Fold the crepe paper in half and cut just shy of the stitched line down the length of the paper.

4. Open the layers again and "fluff."

5. Use your fringe on all sorts of fun projects!!

Squish and Glue Flowers: Converting old Primas

With the advent of Spring I get an incredible urge to clean out the clutter. I sell my children's out grown clothing, donate their old toys, tidy up the yard and yes even attack my crafting space. Part of decluttering my craft room involves repurposing my stash. I have a rule - if I haven't used or even thought about using a product within a year I have to either sell it or make it into something I will use. Otherwise all the junk piles up and drives me nutty. I thought I would share with you some of the new ways I am using stash items over the next few weeks.

Today I am sharing how to repurpose old Prima flowers. My girls call them "squish and glue flowers" and they are so easy my 5 and 8 year olds can do the basic version without help.

I have ton of these old flat Prima flowers - the ones that look like daises and come in a hundred different sizes and colors. I don't use them anymore because I am now drawn to the more dimensional flower types out there on the market today. Here is how to spruce those old blah Primas into something a bit more wowser!

Don't forget to stop by on Friday for the My Pink Stamper blog hop - I put together something extra special for the post!

SUPPLIES

Prima Flat Flowers
Aleene's Tacky Glue
Scissors
VersaMark Ink
Flower Punch (for the leaves)
Green Cardstock
A Stylus

THE HOW TO'S

1. Sort your flowers by size, shape and color. As each repurposed flower requires 3 or 4 flat flowers this will help you to choose how best to build your flowers. It will also expedite the process to be organized up front.

2. Apply a nice dollop of the tacky glue to the flower center.

3. Using your fingers squish the bottom of the flower together. Allow 30 seconds to 1 minute for glue to begin to adhere.

4. Add a dollop of glue to your next flower and squish it around the first flower. Continue to glue and squish until you are happy with your flower's fullness. Allow flower to dry (30 minutes) I like 4 flowers of the same size together. I like 6 flowers if you are layering them smallest to largest and using different sizes.

5. The bottom of the flower (where it was squished) will be long and pointy. Use scissors to snip the end so flower will lay flatter.

6. Use flower punch on green cardstock to create leaves.

7. Remove a few petals if needed to scale leaves to match flower size. Score leaves with "vein" lines and crumple leaves up.

8. Ink leaves with VersaMark ink and adhere to flower with tacky glue.

9. Don't be afraid to embellish these beauties with other scrap materials you have laying about. I inserted two pearl sticks and some scraps of tulle in one and swirled a few drops of water in an almost empty bottle of Stickles and sprayed the petals to sparkle up the another.

10. Fluff and reshape petals as needed.

The flowers will turn out differently depending on which shape the flat Prima's start out as.

Save your packaging! I reuse the cello bags for all sorts of things and I will be sharing a mini album I made from the Kraft sheet the flowers were on later.
