Blogger Blog Badge Tutorial with Grab My Badge Box

Say that 3 times fast!  I couldn’t think of an easier way to say “how to make a cute blog badge with a “grab my badge and add to your blog” box.
I’ve wanted to add a blog badge to the shop for sometime, but time, time, TIME, is always a factor. Just yesterday a friend asked how to do it and so I thought I would share what I told her with you! These instructions are for a Blogger blog.

DESIGNING YOUR BLOG BADGE
I use Photoshop Elements, but I know there are bunches of free services out in web world that you can use. You can also try Photoshop Elements for free here

In Photoshop Elements:
Select the “File” Drop Down Menu
Select “new”
 Select “blank file”

I normally design everything at 12x12 inches out of habit.

Select 300 pixels/inch
Select Transparent Background
Using a photo or image of your choice design your badge.

There are a number of sites like the Graphics Fairy HEREwhere you can get neat images for free.

Be sure to have the name of your blog/shop/site on your badge.

Resize your image to 125x125 pixels by doing the following:

Select the “Image” Drop Down Menu
Select “Resize”
Select “Canvas Size”
Change the drop down options next to width and height to “pixels”
Enter “125” in both width and height
Save your image as a png file.

Uploading your image to an Image Hosting Site

I use Photobucket which can be found here:

It is free and easy to use. It has lots of options for altering your images if you don’t have a photo editing software.

After opening an account you will need to:
Select “upload” from the top bar menu
Select “select photos and videos” Find your saved badge and upload it to the site.
Once your image is uploaded to an album you should be able to hover your cursor over it to reveal a menu which contains a bunch of information
Left click the mouse in the “direct link” box and it will automatically copy the code. You need this code to get your blog badge to appear.

I find that at this point opening a typepad or Microsoft word document is SUPER Helpful.

BUILDING YOUR CODE

Paste the image url from the previous step in the word document
Copy the code below and paste it into a word document (be sure to leave space from the code you just copied and pasted from Photobucket so you don’t get confused)

[center][img
src="YOURIMAGEURLHERE"/][br/][br/][textarea style="width: 129px; height: 129px; overflow: scroll;"][div style=”width: 125px; height: 125px; overflow: auto; border: 1px solid #666666;”]<a href=&#34YOURB LOGNAMEHERE/" target="_self"><img src=" YOURIMAGEURLHERE" alt="YOURBLOGNAMEHERE" width="125" height="125" /></a>[/div]][/textarea][/center]

YOURIMAGEURLHERE = the code you copied from Photobucket
YOURBLOGNAMEHERE = the URL of the site you want people to go to when they click your blog image

TWO VERY IMPORTANT NOTES:
Everywhere you see [ or ] you must correct the code to read < or > with the correct orientation. I can't write the code that way on the blog because blogger reads it as a badge and shows the image of the badge not the code.
You must copy the code EXACTLY down to the punctuation and spacing. If your badge does not look right, you most likely have a coding error.

ADDING THE CODE TO YOUR BLOG
1.    Sign into your blogger blog
2.    Select “Layout”
3.    Select “Add a Gadget”
4.    Select the “HTML/JAVA Script” gadget by selecting the blue plus sign
5.    Copy the entire code you have created and paste it in the “content” box
6.    You do not have to choose a title, but you can if you like
7.    Click “Save”
8.    Click “Preview” in the Layout menu to see how your fantastic blog badge with grab me box works.
Now anyone who wants to add your badge to their blog can do so by adding a gadget just like you did and entering the code found in your grab box to the content section and saving.
Some of you may say “this is for the birds” and it is true that one mistyped key stroke and you may have to edit the code all over, but I find a little frustration is better than paying someone to do something for me. And I love the sense of accomplishment that comes from doing something for myself.
Hope this helped someone and feel free to post the Curtsey Boutique Badge on your blog J

Vintage Dictionary Pages + Doilies + Paper Bows = Simple and Quick Packaging

Curtsey Boutique Kraft Bags, Died Doilies & Paper Bows
I love making detailed projects with all the trimmings and layers, but I don't always have time to turn every crafty gift into a masterpiece. Sometimes, I need a cute, quick packaging idea that conveys "I appreciate you and your special" without spending hours to prove it.

These stacks of embossed kraft bags are wrapped with a strip of vintage dictionary paper, and topped with dyed doilies and paper bows. Simple, elegant and very affordable!

My local thrift shop normally has 20-30 year old dictionaries with thousands of pages for less than $5.00.  I always feel like I'm almost stealing when I walk out with one under my arm :)

Have a lovely day,

Pumpkinly Perfect Card

Pumpkinly Perfect Fall Card
Serendipitous Scrapper
Strolling though the grocery store today, I saw mountains of beautiful orange pumpkins. The smells and colors of Fall are warm and they make me so happy that I thought I would used them with a sketch challenge from Got Sketch.

The Sketch was Challenge # 147 which can be viewed here.

I created the pumpkin embellishment by using an old Sizzix die (remember when they used to be red, yellow and green?). It was the small green pumpkin.

I cut it once from green felt, once from orange felt.

The orange was a bit bright for the muted We R Memory Keepers papers I chose, so I used one of my favorite solutions for toning things down - I covered it with lace.  Sewing along the perforations left by the die and adding a vintage button were finishing touches.

A bit of hand dyed seam binding, more lace and a few vintage buttons and voila - Fall is lovely indeed.

Hope your day is filled with happy harvesty thoughts,

CarrieAnne

Eiffel Tower & Woodgrain Packaging

Die Cut Eiffel Tower and Wood Grain Kraft Bag
Curtsey Boutique
We were lucky to have new neighbors move in down the street this week - especially lucky because they have 2 girls the same age as my oldest two girls which means easy peasy play dates!

I wanted to make them something as a welcome gift and so I put this gift bag together. Ironically my baked goods were to large to fit inside, so they got delivered old school - disposable aluminum pan with a little note (not so fancy).

I still like the bag, though so I used it to pack up an Etsy order.  In retrospect I wish I would have stamped the "Carte Postale" post card with a script background stamp, but it didn't occur for me to do so until I had already mailed it - urgh!!

I die cut the Eiffel Tower from fabric that I had adhered to wonder under (it makes a serious difference in obtaining smooth edges with cotton fabrics.)  I've been die cutting EVERYTHING from fabric since I figured this out. I'm sure most of you knew this trick a long time past, but I normally figure these things out by trial and error - mostly error!

Have a lovely day,

Mason Jar Treat Bags - Halloween Themed

Mason Jar Treat Bags
Curtsey Boutique
I've had this idea floating around in my mind for some time. I wanted to turn the glassine bags I offer in the shop into Mason Jar Treat holders. I think they turned out cute. I really like the hint of baker's twine accenting the buttons and who doesn't love seam binding.  Its available in so many colors!  This seam binding is vintage and was a wonderful treat my mom found for me in a thrift shop.

Just think of all the fun treats that could go inside:

Jelly Beans
Almonds
M & M's
Candy Corn
Gummy Bears
Skittles
Mints
and on and on, and on!

To fill the bags, you just slide the topper off, toss in a handful of yummy treats and slide the topper back on. I adhere the topper to the bags by gently holding up the scallop edge and adhering to the bag with either glue dots or hot glue.

I'll be handing these out at my church's trunk or treating activity.

I will also be doing these in a Valentine's Day theme for the girls treats at school.

The treats and the bags are available in the shop.

Have a great day,

Hanging with Grandpa - Echo Park Digital Project Life Layout

Echo Park Digital Project Life Layout
Serendipitous Scrapper

Fall has descended in full force here in Northern Georgia. Drizzling rain, cool mornings and the first appearance of long sleeve shirts and jackets.

I've a fascination with photographing my kids from behind. Whether they are walking away holding hands, peering up at the sky or looking at animals with their Grandpa as in the attached layout I love seeing their different heights and interactions from an alternative perspective. You also never have to worry about them blinking!

Here is the second part of my 2 page Project Life spread using Echo Park digital products by Lori Whitlock.

One of the things I like about Project Life is the ability to capture stories and pictures about a variety of things in one layout. These photos were all taken at the Abe Lincoln National Boyhood historic site, but I was able to record a story regarding Reid's shoes, things my mom always does on vacation and my feelings about my big brother all in one layout.  In the past I would have done at least 4 layouts to cover these things and more likely than not they would not have gotten scrapped due to limited time. I like that I'm journaling and scrapping at the same time.

There are a bunch of new flowers in the works that I'm uploading to the shop and I'll show images and projects on the blog soon.

Have a great day,
