Cowboy High Chair Banner

As promised this week I am going to share some of the photos of projects I made for my son's first birthday party we held on Saturday. The theme was a cowboy party so of course I have to share a picture of my favorite little cowboy in his birthday getup. You can bet this photo is going to be scrapped as soon as I can get my hands on October Afternoon's new Sarsaparilla vintage cowboy themed release.

I've never like the idea of having a lit candle near a baby so when I saw a high chair birthday banner in a specialty boutique I thought it was a great alternative to having a number "1" candle on a cake. I knew I could easily make one with my  Cricut for a fraction of what the boutique was charging. I used the Jute as string to tie the pieces together and I thought it enhanced the overall western theme.

Reid's cowboy outfit was a colloboration between my mom (who made the vest, chaps and cowboy belt) and my mother-in-law (who crocheted the cowboy booties with spurs). Of course Reid's natural cuteness was critical in the equation, but I could just be biased.

The Sherrif's badge in the middle is a combination of several cuts:
The badge is cut at 5.25 inches using the number "7" cut on the Old West cartridge with the Icon function selected.

The star is cut at 4.75 inches using the number "6" cut on the Old West cartridge with the Icon function selected.

The ivory circle is cut at 5.25 inches using the "circle" cut from the A Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge.

The rosette was created by cutting and adhering together two scalloped circles cut at 2.5 inches from the "Flower14" cut from the A Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge.

April My Pink Stamper Design Team Post - Cowboy Birthday Favors

Our challenge was to create a favor (any kind) using our Cricut and My Pink Stamper Stamps (of course!) After 8 years and three daughter's worth of pretty princess parties and high teas I am beyond excited about my son's first birthday this summer. I was torn between a train, fireman or cowboy theme, but the picture of my son on the wanted poster in an old fashioned rocking chair cast the deciding vote in favor of a cowboy party.

I made four favors and the cuts for each are below as well as the whole recipe!

1. Wanted Sign 
 I plan on taking pictures of the party attendees in cowboy hats and bandanas and then attaching them to Wanted signs, and placing a magnet on the back so moms can put them on the fridge if they like. I used a variety of words from the Sweet Baby and Everyday Sentiments My Pink Stamper Sets to spell out the text.

Cuts: 
The Sign: Page 44 of the Old West cartridge. Select "q" and the "icon function". Cut at 9.5 inches from off-white cardstock.

"Wanted": Used individual letters from the Old West Cartridge cut at 1.5 inches from Cosmo Cricket Paper. I cut the letters twice and layered them so they would really stand out.

2. Hobby Horse Lollipop Treat

A dum dum lollipop is attached to the horse with glue dots. The "thank you" sentiment is from the My Pink Stamper Sweet Baby stamp set.


Cuts:
The "Horse" cut on page 59 of Create a Critter. I cut him from tan cardstock at 3 inches. I then cut him with the "Layer 1" function from white and brown cardstock. I used a paper punch on the brown layer  to create the circles around his eye and bandanna. I cut his mouth using the layer 2 function from brown cardstock and his bandanna from Cosmo Cricket paper with the Layer 3 function. His "bangs" are DMC floss bunched together in loops and held down by glue dots. His mane is a scrap of looped ribbon trim from my scrap bin. The original horse was full body so I cut the rest of him away with scissors so that the hobby horse stick would show.


3. Loot Bag
 Because I wanted this loot bag (which holds animal crackers and other small treats) to really look like rumpled fabric I sprayed the die cut with paper and then crumpled it up. I allowed it to dry from about 15 minutes and then carefully uncurled the cut bag. Be VERY careful as score lines will rip when wet if you aren't delicate.  After the paper completely dried  I cut off the handles to the bag and assembled it. Hemp was then used to close the top. I inked all the edges and added the dollar sign with dimensional adhesive.


The Bag: 
"Robot" cut on page 40 of Wrap it Up with the "Box" function selected. I cut the bag out at 9.5 inches from Cosmo Cricket paper.

The "$":
I cut the "$" from page 57 of the Old West cartridge, by selecting the "4" and the "shift" function. Because I wanted it to really pop off the bag and stand up to wear, I cut it 4 times at 1 3/4 inches and adhered them together.They were added to the bag with dimensional adhesive.



4. Birthday Boy Sherrif's Badge


The other little boy guests will have badges with their names handwritten on them, but Reid needed one with his birthday title on it! I used the "Sweet Baby" Stamp Set for the "Birthday Boy" sentiment. The paper is shimmery and 110 pounds so it looks very "official" (in the words' of my girls) and will stand up to little hands messing with it. I added a self adhesive pin back so it could be worn on a shirt. Be sure to use a Stazon ink so the glossy finish on the paper does not smear your stamped sentiment.


Badge Cuts:


The star badge was cut by selecting the "6" on page 59 of the Old West cartridge and using the "Icon" function. It was cut from shimmery silver cardstock at 3 inches. The inner star was cut using the same cut with the "shift" and "icon" functions keyed. I also used a sizzix folder to emboss the inner star and I added half pack silver pearls for fun.

Rosettes and county fair ribbons are all the rage at the moment. I discovered this very inexpensive and fun way to make a rosette baby shower invitation and matching thank you card using the Old West Cricut Cartridge and My Pink Stamper's Sweet Baby Stamp Set.

Rosette Shower Invitation:

CREATING THE PLEATED CIRCLES

1. The base of this card is a circle shaped card with a hinge on the left. It was cut from white card stock at 3 1/4 inches from the Sweet Treats Cartridge. It can be found on page 69 under the "cards" function.

2. The rosette is created from the ribbon top cut on the Old West Cartridge on page 73.

3. Using the icon function and shift key cut out 5 ribbon tops in a variety of patterns. The ribbon tops need to become progressively smaller in order for them to layer. I cut one ribbon top at 10 inches, 8.5 inches, 7 inches, 5.5 inches, and 4 inches.

4. Beginning with the 10 inch ribbon top remove the center circle by snipping at the few places it is attached the "pleated" outline.

5. Choose any scored line and cut the pleated outline. It is no longer a closed circle now, but an open circle.

6. Accordion pleat this open circle piece backwards and forwards at every score or cut mark.

7. Dry emboss the open pleated circle with the Argyle Cuttlebug Folder

8. Use glue dots to reattach the open circle ends so that it is now a pleated circle.

9. Adhere the pleated circle to the circle card base with Beacon Adhesives' Zip Dry Glue.


10. Excluding the dry embossing, repeat steps 4 thru 8 with each progressively smaller ribbon top.


BUILDING THE ROSETTE

1. Freehand cut tulle circles that are slightly larger than each of the 4 smaller rosette layers. I cut 3 tulle circles in each size.

2. Free hand cut circles from tulle that are slightly larger than the ribbon top they will go under.

3. Using Beacon Adhesive's Zip Dry adhere tulle than ribbon layer, tulle than ribbon layer. I also randomly added scraps of ribbon. As you are building your layers be sure to nestle them firmly one inside the other and flatten them to retain the circular rosette shape.

4. Stamp "Baby Shower" from the Sweet Baby stamp set on off white cardstock and punch out with 1 1/4 inch circle punch.

5. Outline stamped circle with Stickles and adhere to rosette with Zip Dry Adhesive.

6. Place something marginally heavy on the rosette (I chose a box of checks) and allow to dry for 30 minutes.


Thank You Card

1. Create a rectangular card base from solid cardstock. Mine is 4 x 3 1/4 inches.

2. Adhere a rectangular card to the base.

3. Now its time to use those circles you cut out fro the rosettes. Stack the circles one top of another.

4. Using a crop-o-dile pierce all the layers at once and secure them with a brad.

5. Spray the stacked circles with water and crumple them all in towards the brad. Allow them to dry for 10-15 minutes.

6. Once dry slowly uncrumple circle layers. Rotate the layers to add interest.

7. Adhere two pieces of green ribbon to the card base and the flower on top of the card with large glue dots.

8. Apply Stickles to the edge of every other flower layer.

9. Stamp "Thank You" from the Sweet Baby stamp set on white cardstock and layer on top of hand cut blue and black rectangles.

10. Add pierced corners to card base with paper piercer or needle.
